Before Your Session
I want everyone to feel entirely comfortable throughout their photography session, and a big part of that comfort comes from proper preparation. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your session so you can feel your best as we start taking your headshots..
Please note: most shots are head-shots or 3/4 shots (mid-thigh or waist).
Example Photos
When it comes to my photography work, I am amenable to any and all suggestions. If you have an example of a photo that helps you convey the look you want to achieve, feel free to send it to me before your session so I can incorporate it into my approach to your session. This will give me a better idea of how you want the final product to look.
Wardrobe Ideas
The following tips are general tips. Feel free to bring what you’re most comfortable in and what best represents you.
Even if you have a favorite outfit in mind, please bring a range of options so we have plenty with which to work.
Think about colors that complement your features (color tones that bring out your eyes, hair, skin tone).
Be sure to bring a solid option. Sometimes too many patterns can be distracting.
Darker or jewel tones tend to work best for headshots, especially because white can “sometimes” appear too bright.
It is always nice to have a black option.
Bring some long-sleeve or 3⁄4-sleeve shirts or blouses.
Make sure to bring the best undergarments for the tops you choose. Sometimes under studio lights, undergarments can show through.
Heavier or form-fitting fabrics that don't wrinkle a lot tend to photograph best.
V-neck or scoop-neck lines always work.
Bring a few different looks if you like. You will have time to change a few times during the session.
Choosing a Makeup Artist
Working with a makeup artist during your session is a great way to ensure you look and feel your best. I partner with a great selection of experienced makeup artists who know how to prepare a subject for my particular lighting and photography style.
These artists understand how to properly apply makeup to clients of all ages and skin tones. They understand the industry well and know how to perfectly enhance your best features.
The makeup artists have all the necessary supplies for your session but feel free to bring any favorite cosmetic or hair products.
The goal of headshot makeup is to create a polished, fresh, natural look that helps to show your personality in an image. As we like to say, “Your headshot should always look like you, just on a really good day!”
Payment is due on the day of the session.
Dani Werner Photography accepts cash, checks, Venmo, or credit cards if they are more convenient.
